An additional problem associated with added sugars in formula is the concentration of fructose. Fructose has a different structure than the monosaccharides in lactose. Due to the difference in structure, an abundance of fructose increases fatty acid synthesis in the liver. This is highly problematic.
It's incredible: they're deliberately removing lactose and adding filler ingredients which include fructose so that they can save on production costs. As long as infant formula (the only food an infant can eat in the first 6 months of life if they don't have access to human milk and the primary food in the second 6 months) is regulated as a FOOD and not a therapeutic, they'll never have to demonstrate health outcomes in order to have their product approved for market.
